Handmade Glass Headpins fresh from the Kiln. Copper totally black and crusty!
Handmade Glass Headpins made directly on copper wire leaves the copper pretty nasty! Once made, all glass needs to be annealed in a kiln to give it strength and stability but those high temps really make a mess of the copper. I thought I would share the clean up steps with you via photos……
Hot Tub time for my glass Headpins! Nice warm bath in “Pickle” – a chemical mix to remove the black residue.
After a clean water rinse to remove the pickle chemicals notice the copper is a dull salmon color.
Going for a spin….carnival type ride for the Headpins in the Tumbler.
Time to Shine! After a few minutes tumbling with some stainless steel shot and a little soapy water the copper looks amazing!
Nice and shiny and pretty tangled. Time to pull apart and straighten the wires to make great jewelry….especially earrings!
